The Importance Of Vibrating Wire Piezometer In Geotechnical Projects

Vibratingwire piezometer is a device used in geotechnical engineering for various critical tasks like measurement of ground water elevation and pore water pressure. It is also deployed for carrying out pump tests and for measuring uplift pressures in dam foundations. The extreme water pressures that build up behind tunnel linings can also be measured effectively using this device.
How It Works
The best quality vibrating wire load cell comes with a tough stainless steel body and offers consistent surge protection. It is designed to offer highest resistance to radio and electrical frequency interference.
The transducer of the piezometer makes use of a diaphragm which has a vibrating wire element attached to it which is sensitive to pressure. The diaphragm is welded to a hermetically sealed and evacuated capsule.

The Measuring process

The pressure exerted by fluid on the outer face of the diaphragm results in deflections of the diaphragm which in turn results in difference in tension and frequency of the vibrating wire. This frequency is analyzed and transmitted to a device through an electrical coil. There is a readable device which records the readings
